Residential locksmith for Hamilton and Ancaster homes
Booked work is quoted on the phone and confirmed at your door, and emergencies are reached in under 30 minutes in most of Hamilton and Ancaster. Everything below is done at your address from a stocked van, not taken away to a shop.
Before you call, have this ready
- The address, or the nearest intersection if you are on a rural route.
- What the door or vehicle is. Year, make, and model for a car.
- Whether anyone is inside, and whether you are somewhere safe.
- Photo identification, and something showing you belong there.
Most house calls fall into three groups. Something has failed and the door will not open. Something has changed, usually a purchase or a departure, and the keys in circulation are no longer trustworthy. Or the door is fine and the hardware on it was never good enough, which is the one people put off longest.
The housing across our area is genuinely varied, and the right answer is not the same in every street. Durand and Corktown still carry original mortise locks that a modern deadbolt will not simply replace. Meadowlands and Binbrook are recent builds where the existing cylinder is perfectly good and a rekey does everything a new lock would. We tell you which situation you are in before quoting hardware.
What is included
What you actually get
Lockouts and failed locks
Opened without damage wherever the lock allows, then checked so the same door does not strand you again next week.
Rekeying
The cylinder you already own is re-pinned so every old key stops working. Cheaper than replacement and, on decent hardware, exactly as effective.
Deadbolts and lock replacement
New hardware fitted to doors that were cut for something else, including the side and garage entry doors that builders often leave with one lock.
Broken key extraction
The snapped half removed and the cylinder assessed, because a key that broke once usually broke for a reason that is still in the lock.
Patio, mailbox, and secondary locks
The doors nobody thinks about until they are the way in. Sliding patio doors in particular are worth a look on older properties.
Keys cut on site
Spares cut at the door, so a household with one key does not stay a household with one key.
When you need this
The situations this covers
You have just taken possession of a house
You have no idea how many keys exist or who has them. The previous owner does not either. Rekeying every exterior door is the cheapest hour you will spend on the property.
A relationship or a tenancy has ended
A rekey is quicker, quieter, and cheaper than replacing hardware, and it makes every existing key useless the moment it is done.
A key has gone missing
Not lost in the house, actually missing. If it was on a ring with anything identifying the address, treat that as a rekey rather than a spare cut.
The lock has started to feel wrong
Stiffness, jiggling, a key that needs to be lifted or leaned on. That is a cylinder telling you it is going to snap a key, usually at the worst possible time.
The door has only a knob lock
A knob lock is a privacy device, not a security one. A properly fitted deadbolt into a reinforced strike is the single biggest improvement most doors can get.

Straight answers
Questions people ask before they call
Should I rekey or replace my locks after buying a house?
Rekey, in most cases. If the hardware is sound, re-pinning the cylinder stops every existing key from working and costs less than new locks. Replacement makes sense when the lock is worn, damaged, or was never up to the job. We will tell you which you are looking at before quoting.
Can you make all my doors use the same key?
Usually yes, provided the cylinders are compatible. Bringing the front, back, side, and garage entry doors onto one key is a common booked job and it removes the ring of unlabelled keys most houses accumulate.
How long does rekeying take?
A typical exterior door takes a matter of minutes once the technician is at it. A whole house of three or four doors is comfortably a single visit.
Do you fit smart locks on older doors?
Often, but not always. It depends on the door thickness, the backset, and how the existing hardware was cut. We check the door before recommending a model rather than after you have bought one.
Is a deadbolt really worth it if I already have a lock in the handle?
Yes. A latch in a knob or lever is designed to keep a door closed, not to resist force. A deadbolt with a full one inch throw into a strike screwed through to the frame stud is a different category of hardware.
Do you work in apartments and condos?
Yes, including suite locks and mailbox locks. Many buildings require the property manager to be told before a suite lock changes, so mention the building when you call and we will sort that out first.

Talk to a technician, not a call centre
The person who answers is the person arranging the van. You get the price before anyone drives, and it is confirmed at your door before work starts.
